Ice Show

Email sent Feb 20, 2022:

HI Skating Families,

The ice show is only 6 days away! Saturday Feb 26 at 7pm. (Skaters arrive at 6, doors open at 6:30). When you arrive, you'll enter through the front doors, and then you'll need to go downstairs and look for your dressing room. We will be using 5 dressing rooms and they'll all be labelled. Canskate dressing rooms will be the two by the side doors, as usual. The concession will be open :)

I've attached the poster, will be advertising on Facebook, and will be hanging posters around town. Please share this poster on your social media, and most importantly, SPREAD THE WORD!! Word of mouth, especially among the elementary schools, is the best form of advertising. Skaters, tell all your friends!

I'm trying to limit the number of e-mails I send, but there will be quite a bit of important information in this one. If you lose track of e-mails, all pertinent ice show information will be available on our website. Go to the home page and click "ice show"

We have our dress rehearsals coming up this week, and all skaters should be ready to skate on-time, and in costume.

Dress Rehearsal Schedule:

Rising Stars: Wednesday Feb 23 3:30-4:30

Canskate: Wednesday Feb 23 4:15-5:00

Starskate: Friday 5:30-7:30

FINALE INFO: All skaters will be in the finale together. Canskaters who are in the first half of the show will need to put their skates back on, and come back to the ice for the finale.

SKATE GUARDS: Skate guards are important for skaters to have the night of the show, because they will be moving from the bleachers to the ice, over cement. Togs often sells guards, and Canadian Tire & Players Bench does for sure. This is something we could probably borrow from friends etc... so please let me know if you need help with this and I'm sure I can get you some.

VOLUNTEER DUTIES: Traditionally, it's the Starskate parents that do the bulk of the volunteering for an event like this. I am attaching the volunteer sign up sheet for Starskate parents, and if we are falling short on volunteers I may call on Canskate parents for help, but at this time all I need is the following:

CANSKATE PARENTS: I am looking for one parent from each group (red, blue, green) to be in charge of their group at the dress rehearsal, and at the show. Your job at the show will be to gather your skaters, sit with them before they go on (you will have a designated marked space in the bleachers), then get them to the ice 2 songs before their time. Other parents are welcome to join you in the bleachers, but it will be your responsibility to make sure the group is together and ready. You'll be with your group in either the first half or the last half of the show, depending on when they are on the ice. This is a fun job! You won't have a big role at the dress rehearsal, but it will be good to be there, and know who's in your group etc. And, Jessica or I may want to speak with you.

STARSKATE PARENTS IMPORTANT: What has been very successful in the past, is when most starskaters and their parents help with set up. It's fun for the skaters (and parents), and gets the job done really quickly. Sometimes we've even gone for dinner together after set up, before the show. Same goes for clean up - if all Starskate families can plan on staying for 20 minutes, it'll be done so efficiently.

PLEASE REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU WILL BE HELPING WITH SET UP AND CLEAN UP. I understand not everyone can make it, but if most do, PERFECT. Also, please let me know if you can bring staple guns and extension cords. You'll want to label them with your name.

OTHER DUTIES: Please take another look at the sign up sheet, and fill the empty positions. We really need people to do the following:

  • 3 more people to help with Covid Screening at the front door, from 6:30-7:00, and then take turns watching the front door for late entrants.
  • spotlights: we need 3 more people to run the spotlights. Traditionally this has been a dad job, but I'm not exactly sure why. My husband thinks it's because the dads move them up, and then take ownership of them. Anyway, we need at least 4 people to take turns running them.
  • advertising: if you can help with this, great! Otherwise I'll do my best, and we can all spread the word together.

LIVESTREAM!! We are planning to livestream this event on our facebook page, so make sure you like our facebook page: Kimberley Skating Club, and share it with your friends and family that can't make it to the show. I'll also be creating a facebook event today, and that will be available for our advertising efforts.

I think that's all for now. As usual, please don't hesitate to call/text/e-mail me with any questions.
